Postcard from Kathmandu 7

7 November 2009Cricket

Theology has much to offer as we seek the Divine…..Today (Friday), for me, much fell into place… God dwelt in my heart….. and the blessing of that knowing is ….. Stunning!

Driving home from the picnic as the sun was setting (a drive of about one and a half hours) was like driving through heaven….. The bus filled to overflowing… I shared a seat for two – there were five of us – the girl next to me vomited out of the window, the boy on her lap, the boy on my lap, the boy next to me and me didn’t even notice – it was all part of the journey…. She rested her head on my shoulder for the rest of the journey and we rattled along with the snow covered Himalayas glowing in the setting sun watching over us like a Divine presence……… The children were singing all the way home….. “home”……. When they asked “sir” for one English song,,, what could I sing?
“You are my sunshine my only sunshine”
It was dark when we got home…… and it took nearly half an hour of tears for the children and three of the volunteers (it was their last day after a month with the children) to finally go through the gate….. and we left behind us a wonderful day. When I got back to ‘town’ and also farewelled the volunteers…. I went for a coffee (old habits)… Stunningly dirty… I thought a coffee … alone….. just to rejoice in all that had been … And I noticed a smell…….. I smelt of ‘Children’….. What a gift……. I’m still smiling and delighting in the gift that Christian and Gabrielle have been to me….. a gift that is as freely given by the children whose ‘smell’ I now carry……
What a day……… a 7am start…..and a 7.30pm finish…… three meals eaten with the children while sitting in the dirt… sharing everything….. “monkey” had a birthday and a two of the volunteers brought a small cake, added candles and 180 voice choir made his day…… later in the day the same boy soaked my shirt with tears because those who made his day were leaving……. ‘Little mouse” carried my back-pack all day…. Barak Obama took charge of my camera and went through two sets of batteries in creating some 160 photos….. and as the day cooled down…. One of them was so pleased to wear my jumper even though it was XXXL and she was XXXS…….
Are you coming tomorrow……….. now how could I say no?
To find God in my heart is always a delight….. to find that same place filled with the Divine… is beyond ‘stunning’…….
